Awareness of the importance of the environment needs to change



​Presentation of the results of the survey Prevent, Promote, Act was organised at the Cultural Centre Semberija on 12 May 2022.
 
While addressing the guests, Mayor Ljubiša Petrović said that during the first meeting with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) the emphasis was on the needs of people, especially on their right to live in a healthy environment. He also mentioned the importance of the non-governmental sector and youth activism for the quality functioning of the local community.
 
- Young people increasingly show readiness to act in order to change awareness, especially concerning the environment. Only together can we achieve appropriate results and show others that a healthy environment is imperative – Petrović said.
 
He announced that meetings will be organised in Bijeljina on 5 June in order to agree on the cleaning of numerous locations in the city.
 
Laura Lungarotti from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in BaH said that the presented results are related to degradation of environment with the emphasis on the three rivers in BaH – Drina, Una and Neretva. She pointed out that all activities are being implemented in cooperation with the local self-governments.
 
Helena Stojić from the Mountaineering Environmental Association Majevica warned about the seriousness of the situation in Bijeljina related to the environmental pollution and said that a series of activities were implemented to draw the attention of the citizens to the importance of the environment. She pointed out that progress is possible only by working together towards decreased pollution.
 
Youth Vision, a youth organisation from Bijeljina thinks that the key for the environment protection is in joint activities towards improving the current situation.
