Chance for an IT Start
The City of Bijeljina – Section for Local Economic Development and European Integration successfully implemented the project titled “Chance for an IT Start” in Bijeljina, with the goal of improving and aligning the process of secondary vocational and technical education with labour market needs by modifying the Curriculum and Program for IT educational profiles at the “Mihajlo Pupin” Secondary Technical School in Bijeljina. The project also focuses on strengthening the capacities of teachers and students, improving the conditions for practical IT education through modern equipment in two IT classrooms, and organizing practical training with employers, all in collaboration with private IT companies.

This project, which was specifically aimed at aligning secondary IT education with labour market needs, was implemented in partnership with the “Mihajlo Pupin”Secondary Technical School and the IT company“Elephant Solutions.” The project activities included:
These project activities significantly improve the quality of education as they allow students to acquire practical and applicable knowledge in IT companies, and contribute to establishing quality cooperation between the academic community and the private sector.
The project contributes to the long-term sustainability and the creation of an educational system that meets the needs of the modern labour market.

In addition to these activities, another project activity titled “Preparation of the Conceptual Design for the Athletic Stadium in Bijeljina”was carried out, resulting in the conceptual design for the athletic stadium in Bijeljina. The total value of this activity is 17,526.60 BAM, with donor funds amounting to 14,980.00 BAM and the City of Bijeljina's contribution (VAT value) being 2,546.60 BAM.
TOTAL PROJECT VALUE: 104,207.58 BAM (Donor/Swedish Government: 73,889.60 BAM; City: 30,317.58 BAM).
The City of Bijeljina continues with initiatives in line with the 2030 Agenda, promoting the principles of sustainable development and inclusive education.
The project is implemented as part of the program “Framework for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals as a Foundation for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SDG2BiH),” which is funded by the Swedish Government and implemented by UNDP in partnership with UNICEF and UNWOMEN in BiH, under the coordination of the UN Resident Coordinator Office.

- Modification of the curriculum and program for six subjects in two IT educational profiles.
- Equipment of two modern SMART classrooms for practical training at the school (purchase of 30 computers, 2 SMART boards, 2 projectors, and one LED Totem panel).
- Organization of four training sessions for teachers and two workshops for students.
- Organization of practical training for 39 students in seven local IT companies, which represents an innovation, as the curriculum prior to modification did not include practical training with employers.
