Experiences of Nordic Countries to Be Applied in Bijeljina

Mayor Ljubiša Petrović, along with his team, City Manager Tatjana Pantić and Advisor Radoslav Ostojić, held a meeting last week at the City Administration with the diplomatic representatives of the Nordic countries in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meeting was attended by Deputy Ambassadors from Sweden, Sara Lindegren, Norway, Stefan Almehagen Sandstad, and Finland, Emmi Kulta.

During the meeting, Mayor Petrović presented the economic and political situation in Bijeljina, as well as projects completed in previous years and those planned for the upcoming year. The discussion also focused on opportunities for cooperation with the embassies of Sweden, Norway, and Finland on some of these projects, as well as the potential for exchanging experiences with experts from these countries, particularly in areas where these three nations have achieved a high level of development. These areas include the use of geothermal energy, urban mobility, planning and construction of bicycle lanes, as well as parks and other green spaces.

“Our goal is for Bijeljina to begin the transition towards using renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources, and to bring the city closer to European standards in terms of efficient transport, public transportation use, alternative transportation methods, waste recycling, and creating a humane and healthy living environment. We all know that these countries have made tremendous progress in these areas, and every responsible local community should look to some of their solutions as examples. Therefore, we hope that this meeting is just the first step in cooperation with the embassies and cities from Scandinavia,” emphasized Mayor Petrović.
