Sister-cities Langenhagen and Bijeljina - new dimension of partnership
The City of Bijeljina, as sister-city and partner of the German City Langenhagen, was qualified for participation in the pilot project „Partnership for sustainable Local Communities“, which is being implemented by the German Ministry for economic cooperation and development, through its Service for Development „Engagement Global“.
During a two-day workshop which was held mid January 2017 in Gelsenkirchen, 24 selected Local Communities from Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia were given the chance to agree on joint projects with German partner Cities, which would be based on the EU Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the event a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Cities of Bijeljina and Langenhagen with the above alleged Development Service of the German Ministry for economic cooperation and development, defining the joint cooperation within the pilot project „Partnership for sustainable Local Communities“.
The City of Bijeljina is the only local community from Republic of Srpska and one of five cities and municipalities from BiH participating in this project.
